Donald L. Tichnell
August 11, 1937 - August 17, 2007
Donald L. Tichnell, 70, of Pine Bluff Community, Shinnston, passed away Friday evening, August 17, 2007, in the United Hospital Center following a brief illness. He was born August 11, 1937, in Shinnston, a son of the late Floyd and Ida Mae Echard Tichnell.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Mary L. Cumberledge Tichnell, on February 22, 2007.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Steven and Michelle Tichnell of Lumberport; and Mark Tichnell of Pine Bluff; 3 grandchildren, Michael, Brandon and Ryan Tichnell; four brothers, Floyd “Bud” Tichnell, Wallace; John Tichnell and his wife Carol of Enterprise; Benny Tichnell and his wife Mary Lou of Canton, OH; and David Tichnell and his wife Denise of Parkersburg; two sisters, June Kososkie of Arizona; and Hazel Shaffer of Morgantown; a sister-in-law, Martha Snopps of West Milford; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Donald was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar Tichnell, and three sisters, Kate Senchina, Lora Cooper and Edith Marozzi.
Donald served in the United States Air Force for three years during the Korean War. He was also a United States Marine for eleven years, serving three tours of duty in Vietnam.
Following his military service, Donald worked for 31 years as an Industrial Electrician in the maintenance department at AFG Industries. His hobbies included gardening, taking care of his grandchildren and sitting on his porch.
Friends and family will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport on Monday August 20, 2007 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1:30 PM with Pastor Robert Shingleton presiding. Interment will follow at Bridgeport Cemetery, where Military Burial Rites will be accorded.
