Junior Clyde "J.R." Hendricks (1928-2007)
Junior Clyde “J.R.” Hendricks, also known as “Sarge” by his friends, 79 of Bridgeport, passed away Thursday morning, August 9, 2007 at the Louis A. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Clarksburg. He was born March 21, 1928 in New Martinsville, WV, a son of the late Leonard and Gussie Moffitt Hendricks.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hendricks was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Hendricks in 1990, as well as his two siblings, Lester and Mary Hendricks.
J.R. was a career military man who served his country for 26 years in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After his retirement, he worked security detail for different companies in the Louisville, KY area while he resided there.
He was an accomplished leather craftsman who looked forward to doing leather shows at the V.A Medical Center in Clarksburg, and also sold his goods at the Back in Time Antique Mall on Rt. 58. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time, cooking, and had been attending the Bridgeport Baptist Church.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday, August 12, 2007. Family and friends are asked to gather on Monday, August 13, 2007 at 11:30 AM in the Stonewall Park Cemetery in Stonewood where a graveside service will be presided over by Pastor Thomas Edgell. Full Military Honors will also be accorded at the graveside.
