Send Condolences to the Flanigan Family

Otalene McDonald Flanigan (1916-2007)

Otalene McDonald Flanigan, 90, formerly of Liberty Addition, Clarksburg, passed away early Sunday morning, July 22, 2007 at Heartland of Clarksburg following an extended illness. She was born October 6, 1916 in Cairo, Ritchie County, WV, a daughter of the late Otis and Lura Hibbs McDonald. 

Her husband of nearly 70 years, Alvin L. Flanigan, whom she married November 17, 1932, preceded her in death on October 13, 2002. 

Mrs. Flanigan is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert A. Flanigan and his wife Ruth of Clarksburg, and Donald E. Flanigan and his wife Marge of Ravenswood, WV; three grandchildren Robert G. Flanigan and his wife Christine of Clarksburg, Angela Sherry and her husband Edward of Sanford, NC and Stephen Flanigan and his wife Valerie of Maiden, NC; seven great-grandchildren including Heather Fuller Wood and her husband Matt, Travis Sherry, Nicholas Flanigan, Andrew Flanigan, Ethan Flanigan, Victoria Flanigan and Justin Flanigan; three great-great-grandchildren, Logan Wood, Parker Wood and Keristen Sherry; and one sister, Lucille Gibson of Parkersburg. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Randall McDonald.

Mrs. Flanigan was a member of the Mt. Hope Baptist Church for nearly 70 years of her life and also sang in the choir there. She worked as a sales clerk for more than 15 years with Parsons-Sauders Department Store in Clarksburg. Additionally, she was a member of the Queen Esther Chapter 11, Order of the Eastern Star and the Ivy Rebekah Lodge No. 112 of Adamston. In 1999, she received her 50-year membership pin from the Eastern Star, an accomplishment that she was greatly proud of.

In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, baking and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 6-8 PM Monday evening, July 23, 2007 and again on Tuesday from 11:00 AM –1:00 PM, the time of the service in the funeral home with Reverend Etheldean Yanero presiding. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Masonic Cemetery.

Order of the Eastern Star, Queen Esther Chapter 11 will hold a memorial service at 7:30 PM Monday in the funeral home to conclude the evening’s visitation.
