Samuel Gordon Middleman (1919-2007)
Samuel Gordon Middleman, 88 of the Maplewood community in Bridgeport, WV and formerly of the Washington, D.C. area, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 4, 2007 at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, WV. He was born January 12, 1919 in Philadelphia, PA, the only child of the late Abraham and Ester Taube Middleman.
His wife of over fifty years, Charlotte Marks Middleman, preceded him in death on August 18, 1997.
Mr. Middleman is survived by his three daughters, Dana Aksila and her husband Matthew of the Harrison and Doddridge County areas, Maxine Davis and her husband Henry of Delray Beach, FL and Susan Middleman of Pittsburgh, PA.
Mr. Middleman graduated from Atlantic City High School, and attended Washington Jefferson College on a swimming scholarship where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree. While on the swim team, he was fortunate to set several state swimming records.
He served first in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and then in the United States Marine Corp during World War II from 1940-1945 as a fighter pilot. He was a self-employed builder and developer in the Washington, D.C. area for many years. During his time here in West Virginia, he made many wonderful friends whom he enjoyed playing Bridge with. He also enjoyed golfing. He loved West Virginia, it's people, and the care he received while a resident here. Mr. Middleman also leaves behind many cherished friends in the Washington, D.C. area and Palm Beach County, FL.
At Mr. Middleman’s request, there will be no funeral home visitation or services. His request for cremation has been honored, and interment will follow at a later date in the King David Memorial Gardens of Falls Church, VA.
