Clara Kathleen Golden Weekley (1924 - 2007)

Clara Kathleen Golden Weekley, 82 of Ritter St., Bridgeport, WV passed away Saturday afternoon, May 19, 2007 at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Weekley was under the wonderful care of Peoples Hospice and the Visiting Angels. She was born October 29, 1924 in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late William E. and Clara Morris Golden. 

On November 27, 1944, she married her husband of nearly 63 years, Howard J. “June” Weekley, who survives her at home. 

Additionally, she is survived by one daughter, Marilyn K. Weekley Newlon of Clarksburg, WV and Canton, OH and her fiancé, Ray L. Cole of Salem, WV; a son and daughter-in-law, John Howard Weekley and his wife Jill of Martinsburg, WV; six grandchildren including Deanna Newlon Sinn and her husband Jonathon of Kent, OH, Stacey Newlon Dean and her husband George, Janice A. Newlon and Kathy E. Newlon, all of Canton, OH, Danielle B. Weekley and her fiancé Brian Parker of Ashburn, VA and John Howard Weekley, II. of Avon, CO and eight great-grandchildren, Samantha, Amanda and Jessica Sinn, Elyssa and Madison Dean, Jackson William Newlon, and Cole and Izabell Loue. 

Two sisters, Mary F. Golden Lodge of Raleigh, NC and Bridgeport, WV, and Nancy Ayers and her husband Lyle of Clarksburg, WV, complete her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, William W. Golden, John P. Golden, Edward I. Golden, James M. Golden and Robert C. Golden.

Kathleen was a graduate of Bridgeport High School and Fairmont State College, where she received her B.S. Degree in Psychology. She was a longtime member of Simpson Creek Baptist Church in Bridgeport. She was a member of the Rachel Chapter #47, Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. She enjoyed square dancing, traveling, gardening and quilting.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered best for being a great neighbor, her willingness to always help others in their time of need and being assured that when you came to her home, you would be well fed.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, WV from 2:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 22, 2007. Queen Esther Chapter #11, Order of the Eastern Star will hold a Memorial Service at 7:00 PM Tuesday evening in the funeral home.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the funeral home with Dr. C. Michael Hopkins, Pastor of Simpson Creek Baptist Church in Bridgeport, presiding. Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery.
