James Goodman Winpigler

Send Condolences to the Winpigler Family

 

James Goodman “Jim” Winpigler, 72 of Rt. 2,  Bridgeport and formerly of Maryland, passed away late Friday evening, May 4, 2007 at his residence following an extended illness, while under the care and comfort of People’s Hospice. Born April 5, 1935 in Frederick, MD, Jim was the son of the late Maurice and Lenora BookerWinpigler.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Rosemary Huff Winpigler, whom he married March 30, 1969. Additionally, he is survived by four children including Maurice Winpigler of Myrtle Beach, SC; James K. Winpigler and his wife Necol of Richmond, VA; Kimberly Fraad and her husband Colin of Richmond, VA and Dr. Frances Murray and her husband Rick of Lumberport; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Robert Winpigler of Baltimore, MD and Joseph Winpigler and his wife Alta of Joppatowne, MD; as well as one sister, Shelba Viet of Essex, MD and Jim’s special caregiver, Joyce Tichenor of Bridgeport complete his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-brother, Douglas Winpigler.

Jim was a member of the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church on Meadowbrook Rd., Bridgeport. He proudly served his country for 14 years in the United States Navy and after his tenure there he enlisted in the Maryland Air National Guard where he was placed in charge the clinic. He retired from that capacity in 1986 and held the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.

In Maryland, he was a Tyler in the Masonic Lodge. While living in Bridgeport, he was member of the Queen Esther Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Order of the Amaranth and served as Adjutant for the American Legion Post 68. He enjoyed Major League Baseball, particularly the Baltimore Orioles and the Pittsburgh Pirates; NASCAR racing, and was an avid reader of books on the history of American Wars.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 2:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, May 7, 2007. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday in the funeral home with Reverend Sam Cale presiding. Interment will follow in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown, where Full Military Honors will be accorded.
