
Howard Earl Gibson

Howard Earl Gibson, 77, of Maple Lake, passed away Sunday morning, April 29, 2007, at his residence under the care of People’s Hospice.
He was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on April 17, 1930, a son of the late John and Esther (Svengaard) Gibson.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Mary Ann (Jensen) Gibson.
Also surviving are five children and five grandchildren: Deborah & Alan Joe Elder of Norfolk, VA; Brian Gibson and his sons Aaron and Noah of Bridgeport; Jeffry Gibson and fiancée Holly Delaney of San Francisco, and Jeff’s son Erik; Steven and Pegi Gibson of Fairmont; and Paulette and Ray Carr of Whitehall, and their daughters Sarah and Jessica. A brother, Edwin Gibson of Eau Claire, WI; and a sister, Beverly Hanson and her husband Alden of Golden Valley, MN, complete the family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Colleen Gibson, and a daughter-in-law, Mary (Bammel) Gibson.
Howie received his BS Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. He retired on June 1, 1985, after 32 years of service as a professional Scouter with the Boy Scouts of America, serving Councils in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and West Virginia. He then served as the Executive Director for the United Way in Parkersburg, before retiring again.
He was involved in many community activities as a volunteer and with St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. He served in Rotary for over thirty years, having served as a District Governor. His most recent roles were as a volunteer for the Boy Scouts in their Endowment Program and with the United Hospital Center.

Howie’s request for cremation was honored by his family.
Friends may gather with his family for a time of sharing memories at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Rt. 19 S., Clarksburg, (located near United Hospital Center) on Friday, May 4, 2007 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will then be held in the church at 1:00 PM with Pastor James L. Caton, II presiding.
