Edwin Dayton Brady
Edwin Dayton Brady, 82, of Nutter Fort, passed away Monday December 31, 2007, in United Hospital Center. He was born March 17, 1925, in Rosemont, a son of the late Carl B. and Ruth L. Flint Brady of Nutter Fort.
Edwin is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Roberta I. Jeffries Brady; a son, Edwin Patrick (Pat) Brady and his wife Rebecca of Nutter Fort; a sister, Mary Lou Brady McKain of Wheeling; four grandsons, Aaron Brady (Shelly) of Mt. Clare; Shawn Brady (Alegra) of Belington; Joshua Brady (Courtney) of Morgantown; and Grayson Brady of Nutter Fort; three great-grandchildren, Jessie, Ryan, and Hailee, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael C. Brady of Mt. Clare; and an infant grandson, Kevin Michael Brady.
Valedictorian of Bristol High School Class of 1943, Edwin was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army 29th Infantry Division in the Normandy invasion. He was the owner of Atlas Supply and Equipment Company in Clarksburg for 50 years. Edwin was a member of First Baptist Church of Nutter Fort, where he sang in the choir and served as Sunday School Superintendent; Harrison Lodge #223 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Wolf Summit; Star Encampment Lodge #104 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Clarksburg; the Melody Makers Gospel quartet, Clarksburg, and the Fairmont Chapter of SPEBSQSA, the international barbershop singing society. He loved young people and sports, and was one of the first volunteers to work with the Pop Warner Youth Football league in Clarksburg.
Next to his family, Edwin most loved hunting and fishing in the hills and streams of his beloved home state of West Virginia with his sons Mike and Pat, his grandsons, his brother-in-law Bill McKain, and his many friends. He was a great storyteller, remembering every detail of past hunting and fishing trips, and he loved sharing those stories with his family and friends. In his later years, he spent many happy hours with his wife attending auctions and collecting antiques.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, where services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with Reverend Don Fowler presiding. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
