Virginia L. Tucker Corbin, 87, of Rt. 2 Grafton (Pruntytown), passed away early Friday morning, January 12, 2007 at Grafton City Hospital following a brief battle with Multiple Myeloma Cancer. She was born October 10, 1919 at home on Horner’s Run Road near Boothsville, a daughter of the late Melville and Ida Humphrey Watkins.

 

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Charles Tucker and Howard Corbin.

 

Survivors include her five children, David Tucker and his wife Sandra of Pineville, WV, Patty Robinson and her husband Bob of Sykesville, MD, Gary Tucker of Pruntytown, Barbara Scritchfield and her husband Doug of Boothsville, Betty Jo Engleka and her husband Jim of Fairmont; seven grandchildren, Charles Tucker and Stacy Tucker both of Pineville, WV, Rhonda Mikoloski and her husband Ken of Westminster, MD, Mark Robinson and his wife Dianne of Sykesville, MD, Brenda Koontz and her husband Brian of Westminster, MD, J.D. Scritchfield and his wife Debbie of Ravenswood, WV and Kirk Scritchfield and his wife Liddy of Beaumont, TX, and twelve great-grandchildren.

 

One brother, George Watkins and his wife Pat of Ft. Branch, IN and several nieces and nephews complete the family.

 

In addition to her parents and husbands, two brothers, Robert Watkins and Earl Watkins, preceded her in death.

 

Virginia retired in 1984 at the age of 65 from Grafton City Hospital as its Director of Housekeeping and was a Methodist by faith. After her retirement, she worked for 15 years in the Foster Grandmother Program at Pruntytown Elementary School. She was an active member of the Taylor County Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening.

 

Most notably in her spare time, she continued her mother’s tradition of making many beautiful quilts that she shared with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 2:00 – 8:00 PM on Sunday, January 14, 2007. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Johnna Wheaton presiding. Interment will follow in the Scritchfield Family Plot at Claremont Cemetery, Boothsville, WV.

 

At the request of the deceased, the casket will remain closed for the visitation and funeral service.

 

Floral remembrances will be accepted by the family. However, contributions may be made in Virginia’s memory to the Taylor County Senior Citizens Center, Rt. 2 Box 514, Grafton, WV 26354.
