Emmett Clyde “Bill” Sidars, 77, of E. Philadelphia Ave., Bridgeport, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 3, 2007 at the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Clarksburg. He was born December 8, 1929 in Columbus, OH, a son of the late Harry Raymond and Rhuea Branche Cale Sidars.
His wife of 53 years, Frances Nutter Sidars, whom he married July 25, 1953, survives him.
Additionally, Bill is survived by his two sons, Stephen Earl Sidars and his wife Marci of Denver, CO and James Raymond Sidars of Gainesville, GA; five grandchildren, Marissa Sidars, Janelle Sidars, Steven Sidars, Nikki Sidars, Kriston Sidars; two sisters Jeanne Pettigrew of Concorde, NC and Patricia West of Wake, VA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Sidars and James Sidars; and one sister, Mary Maribella.
Bill was a very active member of United Church of God. He was employed for 15 years for the United States Postal Service, and had been a railway clerk. The Clarksburg Foodland also employed him for 16 years, lastly as the Dairy Manager. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Bill served in the United States Army, and was a member of the American Legion Post 200 of Charleston, WV. He also enjoyed traveling, and, in his younger years, was interested in electronics.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Sunday, where services will be held on Monday at 12 Noon with Pastor Tim Waddle presiding. Interment will follow in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown, where full military honors will be accorded.
