Wilma Jane Steitz Jones
Mayfield Send Condolences to the Mayfield Family
Wilma Jane Steitz Jones Mayfield, age 83, formerly of Bridgeport, WV and most recently of the Weirton, WV area, passed away unexpectedly late Sunday evening, March 19, 2006 at the Weirton Medical Center. She was born June 19, 1922 in Richmond, OH, a daughter of the late Ernest Henry Steitz and the late Mary Beulah Black Steitz.
On March 13, 2005, she was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Isaac R. “Ike” Mayfield. The couple was married on December 13, 1968.
Wilma is survived by her three sons, Vernon P. Jones of Troy, Michigan, Darwin L. Jones and his wife Jan of Hendersonville, NC and Larry A. Jones and his wife Jamie of Follansbee, WV; two step-daughters, Karen B. Mayfield Moulton and her husband James of Shanghai, China and Helen R. Mayfield of Los Angeles, CA; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Mary Steitz of Youngstown, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Dean H. Steitz, Harry T. Steitz and Fred K. Steitz; a sister, Ruth Steitz Beebout; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Jones.
Wilma was a longtime and active member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church.
She was a past central division National Vice-President and past Department-President of the American Legion Auxiliary where she had been a member since 1948, and a past High Priestess of the Ladies Oriental Shrine, Tefnet Court #87 of Clarksburg, WV. She was active in the Rhododendron Girls State of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1963 and was a member of the Bridgeport Federated Women’s Club.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday March 22, 2006. On Thursday morning, Mrs. Mayfield will lie in state from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the Bridgeport United Methodist Church 251 Worthington Dr., Bridgeport. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM Thursday in the church with Reverend Steven E. Dorsey presiding. Interment will follow in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown.
