William T. “Bill” Bowen, age 61, of Maple Lake, passed away suddenly at his residence Thursday afternoon, November 9, 2006. He was born June 22, 1945, a son of the late Robert Lee Bowen, Sr. and the late Mildred Geraldine Jones Bowen.
On June 1, 1968, he married Rebecca G. Kerns Bowen, who preceded him in death February 22, 2006.
Surviving are 2 sons, Scott Michael Bowen, of Bridgeport, and his fiancé Lori Piosek of Clarksburg; and Jason William Bowen of Bridgeport; a grandson, Hunter Aaron Bowen; one brother, Robert Lee Bowen Jr. of Charleston Heights; one sister, Vickie Snyder of Rising Sun, IN, his mother-in-law, Marjorie Newbrough Kerns of Bridgeport, and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was a graduate of Montgomery High School and attended the Charleston Barber School. He has been a coal miner for 38 years, currently working as a bolt man for Consol’s Robinson Run Mine #95, Oakdale Portal. He was a member of the UMWA #1501.
He served in the WV National Guard during the Vietnam War, and attended the Evangel Baptist Church.
During his free time, Bill enjoyed riding his Harley, hunting and fishing, and spending time with his grandson, Hunter.
Friends may call at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, WV (www.burnsidefuneralhome.com) on Sunday, November 12, 2006 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 PM Monday with Reverend Gary Hayes presiding. Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery.
