Virginia M. Titus Send Condolences to the Titus Family
Virginia M. Titus, age 93, formerly of E. Philadelphia Ave. in Bridgeport, West Milford and a resident for the past five years of the Croaton Village Assisted Care center in Newbern, NC passed away late Monday evening, April 3, 2006 at the Britthaven Nursing Home in Washington, NC after an extended illness. She was born September 8, 1912 in Whitmer, Randolph County, WV, a daughter of the late John D. Smith and the late May Bell Cunningham Smith.
Virginia is survived by one son John R. Titus and his wife Sue of Chocowinity, NC; four grandchildren Joyce Ann Bozella and her husband Gary and John David Titus and his wife Christine all of Manassas, VA, Jason Randolph Titus of Gainesville, VA and Jerry Alan Titus of Stafford, VA; nine great-grandchildren including Tyler Tessier, Sydney Tessier, Amber Bozella, Danny Bozella, Drew Titus, Ryan Titus, Sarah Titus, Kyle Titus and Carson Titus; one sister Patty Allman of Bridgeport and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Orace O. Titus on October 22, 1988; three sisters Elaine Davidson, Levine Andrew and Mary Helmick and one brother John D. Smith, Jr.
Virginia was a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church. She was employed as a cook at the Jewel City Bowling Lanes and also worked as a switchboard operator for the West Milford Telephone Company. She was formerly a member of the Good Samaritan Rebekah Lodge # 19 of West Milford.
Mrs. Titus enjoyed gardening and was known to be a great cook. She will be remembered as a benevolent soul who was always willing to help anyone in their time of need.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, April 7, 2006. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday in the funeral home with Reverend Steven E. Dorsey presiding. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery, West Milford.
