Samuel B. “Sam” Mazza, age 85 of E. Main St., Clarksburg, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 1, 2006 at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg. He was born January 20, 1921 in Parkview, a son of the late Jim Mazza and that late Catherine Marra Mazza.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Victoria Bitonti Mazza, on May 31, 2006.

 

Sam is survived by his two sons Robert J. Mazza and his wife Kimberly and Mark A. Mazza, all of Clarksburg; one brother and sister-in-law Frank Mazza and his wife Libby of Flushing, MI; three sisters and Rose Mazza Vallelonga and her husband Carl of Clarksburg, Clara Virginia Mazza Wash and her husband Pat of Flint, MI; and Mary Mazza Belcastro of Mansfield, OH; several nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers, an infant Sam Mazza, his next brother also named Sam Mazza and his wife Carrie, John Mazza, and Paul Mazza and an infant Tony Albert Mazza; and a brother-in-law Frank Belcastro.

 

Sam attended the East View Grade School and graduated from Roosevelt Wilson High School where he played football. From 1950 – 1992, he owned and operated Sam’s Barber Shop in Clarksburg. He had also worked for a brief period for Union Carbide as a general laborer. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a member of the Sons of Italy, William Marconi Lodge #1140.

 

He had two nephews whom he spent a great deal of time with, Paul and Steve Wilmoth. He was found on many Saturday nights at the I-79 Dirt Track watching the races there. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races.

 

He was an avid golfer, but also enjoyed other various sports, hunting and gardening. He also in his later years enjoyed traveling to Florida.

 

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 1:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday August 3. 2006. A Wake Service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday evening in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 10:00 AM on Friday with Reverend Cesidio J. Federico as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
