Ruth Elizabeth Atha, 85, of Rt. 2, Bridgeport, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 5, 2006, in the United Hospital Center.  She was born in Saltwell on June 3, 1920, a daughter of the late James and Lettie May (Seckman) Southern.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Atha, on February 3, 1980.

 

She is survived by two children, Roberta Strosnider and her husband James, Ijamsville, MD; and Larry L. Atha and his wife Kathryn, Bridgeport; 5 grandchildren, Kent Strosnider and his wife Susie, Cockeysville, MD; Kimberly Hale and her husband Jamie, Apex, NC; Corey Atha and his wife Traci, Bridgeport; Tarah Formica and her husband Drew, Morgantown; and Eli Atha, Bridgeport; 3 great-grandchildren, Sophie and Brinkley Strosnider, and Kendall Hale; and a brother, Walter Jack Southern, Lumberport.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Arthur, Robert, Perry & Bill Southern, and a sister, Catherine Kulikowsky.

 

Ruth was very proud of the fact that she was a Charter Member of Bible Baptist Temple.  She was also the President of Atha Trucking, a business to which she was dedicated. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a loving mother and grandmother.  She loved to cook and also enjoyed shopping.

 

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. On Saturday, Mrs. Atha will lie in state at the Bible Baptist Temple in Stonewood from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Charles Madaus presiding. Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery.
