Rebecca Gay “Becky” Bowen, 57, of Maple Lake, Bridgeport, passed away Wednesday morning, February 22, 2006 at Ruby Memorial Hospital.   She was born August 10, 1948, in Harrison County, a daughter of Marjorie Newbrough Kerns, who survives in Bridgeport, and the late Robert M. Kerns.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, William T. Bowen, whom she married June 1, 1968. 

Also surviving are 2 sons, Scott Michael Bowen, Bridgeport, and his fiancé Lori Piosek, Clarksburg; and Jason William Bowen, Bridgeport; a grandson, Hunter Aaron Bowen; a brother and sister-in-law, William T. and Sue Kerns, Fairmont; a sister and brother-in-law, Beth and Chuck Clifton, Bridgeport; and a very special niece, Traci Bowen, Charleston.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Gregory M. Mills.

Becky was a graduate of Bridgeport High School, Class of 1967 and the Clarksburg Beauty Academy.  She had owned and operated the Studio of Beauty in Bridgeport in the 1970’s.  She was interested in crafts and craft shows, and formerly owned the Country Peddler Gift Shop in the 1980’s.  She loved spending time with her grandson Hunter, and enjoyed riding motorcycles.  She was a very good and giving friend to all who knew her, and her heart was always open. 

She was a member of Evangel Baptist Church and the Maple Lake Woman’s Club.

Friends were received at Burnside Funeral Home 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport on Thursday, February 23, 2006 from 4:00 –8:00 PM, where services were held on Friday at 1:00 PM with Reverend Thomas P. Horne presiding. Interment followed in Bridgeport Cemetery.
