Mary Carmen Prieto Cox, 87, of Plainfield St., Anmoore, WV, passed away Tuesday evening, September 26, 2006 at her residence. She was born February 22, 1919, in Harrison County, a daughter of the late Joseph Prieto and the late Ceferina Saurez Prieto.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Darlene Wilkinson of Anmoore and Charlene Bates and her husband Gary of Gore; six grandchildren, Don Coe of Fairmont, Robert Coe and his companion Kerri of Summit Park, David Coe and his wife Jessica of Good Hope, Maria Ammons and her husband Brian of Lost Creek, Michael Bates of Gore and Atisha Wilkinson of Anmoore; and six great-grandchildren, Casandra Renee Coe, Jared Coe, Jacob Coe, Zackary Coe, Madison Ammons and Lindsey Ammons. Three sisters including Vera Long and Oliva Matheny, both of Bridgeport, Thelma Steffich of Clarksburg, and several nieces and nephews complete her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Clarence “Bud” Cox on August 5, 2003; one daughter, Maureen Hurst; six brothers, Manuel Prieto, Mino Prieto, Joseph Prieto and three that died in infancy; and one sister Dolores Prieto Skinner.
Mary was a long-time member of All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport and was employed for eleven years by Eagle Convex Glass. She was an avid bingo player, and played continuously until late 2005 when her health no longer permitted her to do so. She was formerly a member of the Women of the Moose in Clarksburg and was active with the Harrison County Senior Center in their functions and trips.
Mary a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who loved spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Thursday, September 28, 2006. A Vigil Service will be conducted at 3:30 PM Thursday in the funeral home to conclude the afternoon visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday, September 29, 2006 in All Saints Catholic Church, 317 W. Main St., Bridgeport with Reverend Harry N. Cramer as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery.
