Leona L. "Shorty" Lawson Vincent

Leona L. “Shorty” Lawson Vincent, 93, of Paradise Valley, AZ, and formerly of Saltwell Community, Bridgeport, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, December 4, 2006.  She was born Februay 5, 1913, in Hutton, MD, a daughter of the late William and Ella De Lauder Lawson. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Revere Vincent, Sr., in April 1983.

Surviving are 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Judith Vincent Brown and her husband Howard, Paradise Valley, AZ; and Mary Jill Vincent, Medina, OH; a daughter-in-law, Sarah Vincent, Bridgeport; 9 grandchildren, Richard Bock and his wife Renee, Charlotte, NC; Mary Beth Anderson and her husband David, Saltwell; Rachel Ann Batchelor and her husband, Alan, Morgantown; Rebekah Hollen and her husband Steven, Buckhannon; Paul Revere Vincent, III, Bridgeport; Elizabeth Brown, Scottsdale, AZ; Tiffany Driscoll and her husband Steven, Scottsdale , AZ; Judith Lee Brown, Paradise Valley, AZ; Jennifer Garner and her husband Brett, Medina, OH; 9 great-grandchildren; a  brother and sister-in-law, William “Bill” Lawson and his wife Martina, Morgantown, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul Revere “Timmy” Vincent, II; a daughter, Nancy Nelle Bock; a sister, Mary Virginia Mostade; and 2 brothers, Gordon Lawson and Loyd Lester Lawson.

Leona was a born-again Christian who was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Shinnston High School. Leona was an avid reader since she was a child when she won a contest for most books read in Harrison County. She loved her farm and always had a beautiful garden, but what she enjoyed most in her life was her house full of her family and friends.                         

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Shorty’s memory can be made to Grace Baptist Church, 1010 Oral Lake Road, Bridgeport, WV 26330.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 5 – 8 p.m. Friday, where services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Vaughan presiding.  Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery.
