Kenneth Harold Dofflemyer, age 81 of Westwood Ave., Bridgeport, passed away Sunday morning, July 2, 2006 in the Louis A. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Clarksburg. He was born January 31, 1925 in Clarksburg, a son of the late Ellis Bernard Dofflemyer and the late Nellie May Carder Dofflemyer.

 

Mr. Dofflemyer is survived by his second wife Lena Martha Vincent Dofflemyer, whom he married August 11, 2004; one daughter and son-in-law Patricia Jo Nixon and her husband Keith of Akron, OH; one grandson Dr. Kenneth Nixon and his wife Kim of Stow, OH; two great-grandchildren Brandon Nixon and Brianna Nixon; one brother Leonard Dofflemyer Summit Park; one step-daughter Sandra Bland of Clarksburg; and one step-granddaughter Amy Nicole King and her husband Jonathon of Morgantown.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first of wife of 58 years Mary Lynn Lynch Dofflemyer; and three brothers Charles Dofflemyer, Raymond Dofflemyer and Frank Thortmorton.

 

Mr. Dofflemyer retired from Brockway Glass in Clarksburg as a Staff Production Supervisor after 38 years of service in 1973. A member of the Clarksburg Methodist Temple, he was a Veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Army from May of 1943 until November of 1945. He served as a combat medic and also in combat infantry. For his service, he was awarded two Purple Hearts, the Combat Infantry Badge and a Bronze Star.

 

He was a history buff who enjoyed traveling and watching movies. He was also a baseball fan whose favorite team was the New York Yankees.

 

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 2:00 – 6:00 PM on Tuesday, July 4, 2006, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM with Pastor Keith Rittenhouse presiding. Entombment will follow in the Everlasting Life Mausoleum at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Quiet Dell.
