Helen Irene Hoyt, 91, formerly of Fairmont and Bridgeport, died Saturday evening, January 7, 2006, after an extended illness. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 20, 1914, a daughter of the late Lena Mae Ward Frayer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Eugene Hoyt, on April 11, 1997. They were married February 6, 1937, and celebrated 60 years of marriage together.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Abe Gawthrop, Dunnellon, FL; three grandsons, James Gordon Gawthrop, La Fayette, GA; Philip Charles Gawthrop, Ooltewah, TN; and Timothy Thomas Gawthrop, Christiansburg, VA; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.
In addition to her husband and mother, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Ryerson and Velma Hicks.
Helen was a graduate of Magnolia High School, and was a clerk in the Marion County Tax Office for many years. She and her husband left Fairmont in 1976 and moved to Daytona Beach, where they resided for 17 years. Due to their declining health, they returned to Bridgeport in 1993. Helen loved to play Bridge, work crossword puzzles, and was Protestant.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial contributions be made in Helen’s memory to your favorite charity.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 2:00 – 3:00 pm on Saturday afternoon, January 14, 2006, where services will be held at 3 pm with Dr. C. Michael Hopkins presiding. Burial will be in the Marshville Cemetery.
