Send Condolences to the Tate Family

 

Harold V. Tate, age 82, of Stoneybrook Road, Clarksburg, passed away early Monday morning, April 24, 2006, at his residence under the care of Tender Loving Care Hospice. He was born August 2, 1923 in Clarksburg, a son of the late Harry Tate and the late Sarah Margaret Dobbins Tate.

 

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Olive G. Fansler, Tate on May 7, 1984. They were united in marriage on June 29, 1943.

 

He is survived by two sons, Harold D. Tate and his wife Caroline of Bridgeport, and David B. Tate of Clarksburg; two daughters, Karen K. Tate of Morgantown and Shari S. Tate of Clarksburg; two grandchildren, Christy A. Tate and Bradley D. Tate, both of Bridgeport.

 

Harold graduated from Washington Irving High School, class of 1941. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II for 32 months where he was stationed mainly on the Aircraft Carrier Langley.

 

Mr. Tate worked for the United States Postal Service for 25 years, initially as a mail clerk and retiring as Superintendent of Mail. Following his retirement he also worked for and managed Producers Dairy Co., was an engraver for Williams Jewelers, and owned the Willison Real Estate Co.

 

He was a member of Reynoldsville Baptist Church since the 1950’s. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and supervisor, moderator of the Judson Association and was also a Vacation Bible School supervisor.

 

Harold was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Clarksburg Lodge 482 were he served as Chaplain. He was also a member of the VFW Post 573 in Clarksburg and assisted the Salvation Army in organizing bell-ringers at Christmas. He also enjoyed hunting and traveling in his spare time.

 

Friends and family will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. On Wednesday, Mr. Tate will lie in state at the Reynoldsville Baptist Church from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. The funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 AM Wednesday with Reverend Jon Hayes and Reverend Don Flanigan co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Devotion at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, where full military honors will be accorded at the graveside.
