George Edward Popovich

Send Condolences to the Popovich Family

George Edward Popovich, 55, of Pinewood Avenue, Bridgeport passed away Sunday morning, May 28, 2006, after an extended illness. He was born July 19, 1950, in Clarksburg, the son of George and Helen Popovich, who survive in Stonewood.

In addition to his parents, George is survived by his wife, Phyllis Margaret Lemon Popovich, whom he married April 1, 1972; one son Greg Edward Bradley-Popovich and his wife Cheryl Renea of Camas, WA; a grandson, Alexander Wheeler Bradley-Popovich and a granddaughter, Olivia Marielle Bradley-Popovich, both of Camas, WA; one brother, Joe Latz of Country Club Addition; three sisters, Margaret Paugh and Barabara Seti, both of Stonewood, and Helen Jean Vernon, Laurel Park; and his mother-in-law, Betty Lemon of Stonewood.

George was formerly employed by Thorofare, Foodland and Giant Eagle as a meat cutter. He was a member of the Center Branch Baptist Church and the United Food and Commercial Workers. He graduated from R-W High School in 1968, and in his free time George was an avid trout fisherman.

George was an inspiration to all who knew him. He overcame many handicaps and afflictions when he was diagnosed at the age of 16 with an ependynoma.

With the advent of the return of his brain tumor he sought many opportunities to provide others a ray of hope into diagnosis and cure of this illness.

In a silent resolve of human spirit, he was instrumental in patient advocacy of policies regarding patient care and release procedures.

Friends and family will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, on Wednesday, May 31, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 AM Thursday with Reverend Tom Whaley presiding. Interment will follow at Bridgeport Cemetery.
